Our proposal for the King Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve, known as HOMA, begins at its southern gateway — the closest point to the city and the natural starting place for visitors.
At the center of this access area is The Drop, a distinctive landmark that welcomes guests with a visitor center, research facilities dedicated to desert studies, and a vast 19-hectare plant nursery designed to strengthen the Reserve’s ecosystem. Housing for scientists and guests ensures that knowledge and discovery are part of everyday life here.
The Reserve itself offers a wide range of experiences: self-sufficient overnight pods set in the landscape, observation decks for taking in the desert’s extraordinary views, and low-impact camping areas for families and groups. Visitors can also follow the historic paths of King Abdulaziz on guided camel caravans, connecting with the traditions of desert life. Every two years, the Reserve hosts the Desert Sand Festival, where ephemeral works of art transform the dunes into a cultural landmark.
Sustainable transport — from electric shuttles to new air mobility solutions — links these experiences together, ensuring easy access while preserving the delicate balance of the environment.
HOMA is imagined as both a gateway and a vision: a place where science, culture, and nature come together in one of the world’s great protected landscapes.
